We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My sister Gemma was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2014 and her youngest son Noah was diagnosed with eye cancer in January 2016. Please read their story on:-

With the help of friends and family we are trying to raise awareness and funding for both Brain Tumour Research and The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust charities by carrying out a number of fundraising events.

On 24th September 2016 my dad (Andy Relf) and I are planning to compete in a kayak event in the stretch of the Atlantic Ocean from the Isles of Scilly to Sennen Cove, Cornwall. The distance is over 50km in what is considered one of the most treacherous stretches of Ocean in the world. (Just check out the number of shipwrecks around Scilly!). We will be completing this challenge in a Fenn XT double surf ski (a fast but very unstable type of kayak) named "Gemma Edgar"

The crossing would be challenging for any experienced kayaker, but for my dad and I its a massive undertaking as we are complete amateurs.

We hope our challenge will help raise as much awareness and funding as possible for Brain Tumour Research.

See celtic crossing website for more info on the challenge

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
