We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Supporting this amazing charity is a decision I found easy to make.

In my nearly 30 years of life I have witnessed first hand the devastation this disease causes to those suffering and also those around them.

I lost my grandad to alzheimers. I remember when he first got diagnosed and the small things he would forget from heating up his tea we had taken round to getting muddled up with names. Over the years the things he forgot became more significant. He struggled with daily tasks we all take for granted. I remember when he came to live with us and we all helped my mum to care for him. As the time went on he lost more and more of who he was. After many years of suffering he lost his fight and we lost our rock.

From this experience I became a care assistant and help to care for the elderly in their own homes. I see on a daily basis people living through the same thing myself and my family did. My own experience helps me to provide comfort for them and a supportive ear.

This is why I have chosen to take part in One Giant Leap. I would like to think we can raise funds to find a cure for this horrific disease. No one should have to live to forget who they are or where they have come from.
