Story

Last year, during a very busy season of weddings with my harp I was called for a routine mammogram. Unfortunately I received a letter calling me back for extra testing and in the end the news was not what I wanted to hear. That summer saw a couple of operations in between all of my wedding work. I managed to carry out all of the bookings.

By November I was commencing chemotherapy, which carried through Christmas, New year and into February. I was very ill with the treatment but still was determined to carry out my performing.

I lost my hair along with my eye lashes and brows. It was very difficult. But I was thankful that our health service supported me and gave me an excellent wig, which I wore and still wear to my performances.

During chemo I met and made friends with many girls from my area. I was horrified at the number of people who also had the disease within a very small radius.

Out of this awful negative situation I decided there must be something positive we could do. I knew my surgeon was involved with breast cancer research at Queens and so I decided that if I could use my situation to not only raise awareness but to get some funds to the root of the disease ie the research lab, then that would be a positive thing.

My friends at Ten21 photography contacted me during chemo and had the idea to take some photos and some video footage of this time in my life. We will release this video and photos in a bid to gain donations for the ongoing research at Queens University Belfast.

Please give to this great cause. We are grateful for any donation no matter how small.
