Story

I was recently airlifted to Morriston hospital by Wales Air Ambulance following a fall.

I've decided to shave my head on Saturday 5th August at 1pm at the Wales Air Ambulance shop in Pontypridd to raise funds to support this amazing service, which is solely funded by the public and requires £6.5 million a year to keep its 4 helicopters in the sky serving Wales and saving lives. Each rescue mission costs £1500!

I was air lifted from a campsite near Pen y Cae in the upper Swansea Valley on Monday lunchtime (3rd July) after falling and badly breaking my ankle.

On my very first camping trip, I managed to trip over a guy rope and slip on wet grass, all while trying to avoid stepping in sheep poo! After falling and hearing a loud crunch, I noticed that my foot was at a 90 degree angle to my leg...ouch!

The team from Wales Air Ambulance were dispatched as there was concern about my circulation. They were amazing. They put me at ease immediately, kept my spirits high and informed me every step of the way.
I was flown to Morriston hospital in Swansea in very safe hands... what a view too!

It turns out I've got a maisonneuve fracture and dislocation. I had surgery on Monday evening to insert 2 screws into my ankle. I'm in a cast and not allowed to weight bear for at least 6 weeks, then comes physio and removal of the screws at 12 weeks (if all goes to plan)....it may be a long road to recovery.

I've been inspired to ensure good comes out of this horrid injury so please donate whatever you can, however big or small, to this very worthy cause.

Your donation will help keep this vital Welsh service running and allow for patients to be taken quickly in their time of need to the most appropriate hospital.
