Greyhound Gap is an independant Greyhound and Lurcher  Rescue started in 2003 to rescue greyhounds and lurchers and often other breeds who find themselves in put to sleep situations in stray pounds when they remain unclaimed. At anyone time we house around 80 dogs in our care! 40 of those dogs are usually in private boarding at a cost of around £6000-7000 a month! A mortgage would be around £3000 a month much more managable and sustainable and our own property would allow us to rescue, rehome and rehabilitate many more dogs at a much reduced cost. Over the last 6 years since the property fund the volunteers have worked tirelessly alongside the already substantial running costs per month of the rescue to help us continue towards our ulitmate goal of making this dream come true! We now have around £110,000 towards that dream! A dream that to make reality would cost around £185,000. Having laid quietly dormant with the work going on behind the scenes this year we  hope to be the year we launch forward with our ultimate goal and work hard towards making this dream a reality. Behind the scenes much hard work is going on sourcing a suitable property, incorportating the charity and from the 1st of July we will also become VAT registered. Wet Nose Week is being run to help us try to raise an additional £10,000 towards the deposit needed to put us in a position to purchase. We do have mortgage lenders willing to work with us and mortgage advisers who have already started to put measures in place for us behind the scenes out of the goodness of their own heart. £10,000 may seem an optomistic amount to raise but we set a total last time during the first Wet Nose Week of £7,000 thinking that to was optimistic and with so many kind people taking part we actually smashed that total! Whatever we raise it is money we did not have and there has been so many fabulous donations of items to the fundraising week that I am already totally gobsmacked and humbled again.
