Story

Please sponsor me I'm raising money for Kent Kids Miles of Smiles a charity for sick and disabled children and young people of kent.

We have two homes Footprints for 3 - 17year olds and Redwalls for 18-30 year olds, both offer respite and permanent accommodation. The reason for each child or young person living at Footprints or Redwalls is as unique as the child themselves, their conditions range from autism, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy to rare conditions such as Lennox gastaut and Dravets Syndrome, to name but a few most of which are life limiting.

Their conditions require 24 houre one to one care, by living with us and making this there home, mum's and dad's can return to being just that and not being just carers, we believe they are people first who have the right to privacy, choice, dignity and self respect, as well as have the right to make life choices and be consulted and informed. We are a not for profit charity with very little funding to enable us to carry out our valuble work, so rely on the support of people raising money for us.

I will be treking the Inca trail the most famous trek in South America and rated by many in the worlds top 5 treks. It combines beautiful scenery, lush cloud-forest, subtropical jungle and a stunning mix of Inca paving stones and ruins. The climax of the trek is Machu Picchu, the mysterious "Lost City of the Incas".
Essentially the Inca Trail is a mountainous jungle hike leading to the sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu. The 45km trek is usually covered in 4 days, arriving at Machu Picchu at daybreak on the final day before returning to Cusco by train in the afternoon.

The trek is rated moderate and any reasonably fit person should be able to cover the route. It is fairly challenging nevertheless, and altitudes of 4200m are reached, so ensuring that you I'm well acclimatized is important.
We will start by covering no more than 13 km in a few hours, passing by the Inca ruins of Llactapata, a site used for crop production and which has remained well preserved.
Day two is the hardest of the four days: the ascent to Warmiwanusca or Dead Woman's Pass, which, at 4,200 m above sea level, is the highest point on the trail.
Day three starts with the final climb to Dead Woman's Pass. The views from the top provide excellent views of nearby mountains such as Salkantay and Veronika. After a second pass is the site of Sayacmarka, perched atop a sheer cliff. After Sayacmarka the Trail continues through thick cloud forest and jungle, filled with tropical flowers and colorful orchids. Reaching a third and final pass at Phuyupatamarka, one gets a first glimpse of Machu Picchu mountain, roughly 13 km away.

The final day is another easy day, mostly descending into the valleys and passing through more colorful jungle and cloud forest. Winay Wayna is an impressive and well-preserved Inca site, climbing a steep-sided mountain.

About the charity

Kent Kids Miles of Smiles is a Charity set up to raise funds to establish and run 'Footprints' a children's care home for the sick and disabled of Kent. Our aims and objectives are as follows: 1. To generally assist in the well being, comfort and happiness of Kent's sick and disabled children. 2. To provide holiday homes abroad for Kent's sick and disabled children.3. To establish and run holiday centre in the Kent area for sick and disabled childrenFootprints provides a home for 6 permanent children and 6 respite children 52 weeks of the year. During their stay with us the children's entertainment is centred around their choice of activities and capabilities, at the same time ensuring that their individual needs are met.During their stay each child is encouraged to develop self awareness and personal growth. The activity programme includes visits to the zoo, bird parks, farms, indoor activity centres, theme parks, historical attractions, beach, restaurants and swimming pools. We hope that although 'Footprints' provides fun place to stay for sick and disabled children, it also raises awareness in people that our children are no different from any other children in the fact that when 'sleeping over' they can participate in all the activities enjoyed by able children. A child is a child no matter what they look like, can or cant do, they all need the same love and attention that is provided for the children at 'Footprints'
