Story

Thank you for visiting our page, here's a bit more information about what we are about...

Who are we?

Every year the University of Leicester Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme offers teaching to Clinical Psychology Trainees about disempowerment and social action. This teaching tries to bring the ‘social action’ element to life by making it a bit more ‘action’. This component of the teaching involves getting out of the classroom and utilising the teaching day and the trainee group, as a resource to local people.

Over the years, the teaching staff have built relationships with community groups in Braunstone, a residential area within the city of Leicester. One such community group is the Braunstone Foundation/BInspired and for this year’s social action day, we (Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists involved in the teaching) hope to raise funds for them by taking part in a sponsored dig, involving helping to prepare undug ground for planting.

Who are we raising funds for?

The Braunstone Foundation exists to provide help and support to the residents of Braunstone in Leicester and continue a legacy of regeneration and improvement. This Foundation act as a Community Anchor for Braunstone and aims to deliver quality services to all sectors of the community including; individuals, groups, and businesses.

We have set up this fundraising page as The Braunstone Foundation are trying to raise funds for their Growing Project, which started with very humble roots two years ago, using local green spaces and gardens to grow fresh produce. After winning an RHS neighbourhood award, a Farmer in neighbouring Blaby District kindly donated farmland to support this project. Over the last year, the project has grown and they now run a volunteer scheme at the Farm. The scheme supports volunteers to plant vegetable crops to supplement The Braunstone Foundation’s Foodshare (which struggles to have enough food to meet demand), it also means that they have fresh veg available for families who are struggling or who are in crisis.

What will sponsorship money be used for?

We are fundraising to generate money to contribute towards continuing the invaluable work of the Growing Project and supporting them to be able to purchase an eco-toilet for the volunteers at the Farm. Currently, there are no permanent toilet facilities on site, which understandably limits the scope of the project. The chemical toilet would allow the project to grow and support more volunteers, who also benefit from the work they do.

Please support us if you can by making a donation and sharing this page as widely as you can (through emails, Facebook, Twitter and any other means you can think of!).
