Story

I began running in 2014 in an effort to get fitter and lose weight, as well as trying to become a healthier role model for my children.  I gradually worked my way up to 5k with the help of the ‘Couch to 5k’ running app and applied for my race in 2015.  However this was not meant to be as 1 week before the race I had a really bad fall and ended up in A&E with 2 torn ligaments in my ankle.  I was totally gutted.

However, I had lost about 5 stone and there was no way I was going to let all that hard work go to waste.  I picked myself up and listened to all the advice I had been given about recovery and got back in the gym, doing every exercise I could to maintain my fitness.  Gradually I started to heal and after 10 weeks I was ready to run again.

I have since completed many 5k and 10k races, half marathons and have become a running coach for the This Girl Can campaign.

I have had to fight through life’s daily struggles to reach where I am today and don’t know how I would have coped if anything else had been thrown into the mix.  It is really hard to stay positive when life throws you a curve ball and yet there are lots of people, some of whom I know closely, who have had to contend with a lot more than me.

When I heard about the Helford River Children's Sailing Trust's project 'The Floating Classroom' I immediately wanted to help.  This project aims to raise enough money to build a 'floating classroom' and centre on a lake for children and young people with a range of disabilities.

Being a mum of two I have experienced first hand the enjoyment children get from being in the water outdoors.  It would be wonderful for all children to be able to gain new experiences on the water in a safe environment.

That’s why I am running the Bournemouth Marathon.  Not only as a personal challenge but also to try and raise awareness and as much money as I can to help others.
