Story

I have closer attachments to GOSH than I first imagined.

I first walked through the hospital while heavily pregnant with my son Daniel in 2010 for the launch of HAIRraising.

A couple of years later, Daniel was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Thankfully it was benign, but we have spent the last 2 years in and out of GOSH. Daniel had to go through a long and painful surgery and recovery. Due to the size of the tumour he had to learn to sit and walk again, and build up his strength and motor skills. Daniel still has a diary full of check ups at GOSH to ensure the remaining tumour tissue has not grown or altered.

We have very recently discovered that had the Neurological Operating Theatre at GOSH been equipped with an MRI Scanner, Daniel's tumour could have been removed in its entirety as the surgeons would have had the capability to persist  with the delicate removal process ensuring that he came out tumour free.  Daniel was fortunate that his tumour, though large was benign.  Had this not been the case the result could have been very different.  Theatre MRI Scanners are available in other UK city hospitals but Great Ormond Street is yet to get one.  They need £2 million and I am goint to be relentless in raising that money so that other children and parents don't have to suffer the same post operative anguish that we have.

The staff, environment and the atmosphere at GOSH have supported my family and I through harrowing times. I stayed in the hospital for a month with Daniel throughout his surgery and early recovery. Ensuring that the facilities can cater for families to stay close to their child is crucial for an institution like GOSH.

As a parent who knows GOSH very well, I have created this page to say thank you to GOSH, and for everything they did for Daniel and my family. We are grateful to you all every single day.

GOSH will always need funding to help create a safe effective and supportive environment for sick children. Please help by making a donation.
