Nordoff and Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice. Through the power of music, it breaks through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation. The charity does this through providing music therapy to people across the UK, whilst also training the music therapists of the future and funding research to measure and improve the impact of its work.

Story

Many of you will know I sing in a choir (Rock Choir).  Recently we had a big get together with all the choirs in our region and had a good old sing ya heart out session.

During that gathering we had a presentation from Nordoff Robbins the independent music charity,  about how music therapy and their charity can help people in so many situations.

Part of that presentation was a clip about 'Kath' a lady with dementia. Kath had no real communication, and was almost completely isolated from everyone around her.  This was until someone started playing music and singing to her - at which point she became alive. Her face lit up, she was able to remember the words, and be back in the world. For however short a time that was, for her and her family this would have been nothing short of a miracle.

Having lost my Dad many years ago to dementia, and knowing how he loved music, I wish we'd known back then how this type of therapy could have helped him and us cope with what is a horrendous disease.

We saw a little boy, Genesis, who has Autism and his mum struggling to communicate with him until he was introduced to a Nordoff Robbins music therapist - the difference it made was and is incredible.

Music therapy helps so many people, so I felt compelled to help support this independent charity by running the Virgin London Marathon.  I know, I know.  I said I would never run another marathon, but this is an amazing charity and worth putting all the training hours and hard work in for.

So, if you can please help me support this charity, every £1 really helps and makes a difference.

Thank you my friends I'll be documenting this adventure so stay tuned... for 'the good, the bad and the ugly' trials and tribulations of Marathon training!
