We fund research to stop prostate cancer killing men

Story

On the 24th of March 2017, Me and Simon will be setting off to Nepal to take on the worlds most famous mountain in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. (Joined by our idiot friends Joe and Tierney ;) )

This challenge will see us trekking to 5,545 metres above sea level over an estimated 12 day period. Aside from our trek, we also run the risk of high altitude sickness, being attacked by a Himalayan bear/yak or tiger and unpredictable/extreme weather conditions. But with that in mind, another challenge in itself will be having no pubs to go to in the Himalayan mountain range.

In 2014, a close family member of ours was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and just like 1,111,000 new cases diagnosed in 2012, those affected have been able to keep fighting because of the hard work, research, services, commitment and awareness made from Prostate Cancer UK.

But what has provoked us to honour this cause, is the positivity our family have shown despite all of the challenges and battles they have had to face so far. Its this type of attitude that should be recognised and celebrated, and something a lot of us can learn from!

If we can show half of the amount of strength and courage they have, whilst we are whinging about blisters and having to wash with baby wipes, together we can achieve this victory and mark our flag at the base of Mount Everest.

Our Challenge

Firstly, arriving safely from Kathmandu to Luka airport which is one of the most dangerous flight paths in the world (sorry mum) acquiring a local guide who actually knows where he's going, and preferably a yak (cousin of a bull) to keep us company. As far as guides go, the 38.58 miles or 62 kilometres across 5,545 metres (18,192 ft.) should take us 7 to 8 days to walk in and a 3 to 4 day walk out dependent on our acclimatization and ability.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our venture. We hope that we have inspired you to donate to our fundraising campaign - it's for a good cause that's very close to our hearts.
