Story

The Unconventional Marathon

Spring into action with Ennis & Co for Toby Ritchie

On 22nd April (postponed from 18th March following the cancellation of the Reading Half Marathon due to snow) Ennis & Co invites you to join us in raising funds for the Brain Tumour Charity.  We’re running and walking to support the inspirational work started by the Ritchie family who have so far raised £3 million to support paediatric research
into brain tumours. Toby Ritchie was just five when diagnosed with a brain
tumour and the Ritchies are now aiming to add to these funds and continue to
support the world’s largest research project into the disease.

Lynda Ennis heard about the challenge and asked the Ennis
& Co team how they could help this incredible cause and so a plan came
together.

On Sunday 22nd April, Jo Church and Freddie Keyworth will be running the Southampton Half Marathon raising funds through sponsorship, whilst Lynda Ennis and Al Clarke will be walking 13.1 miles around Hythe Marina in the New Forest. It’s an unconventional way to complete a marathon (!), but the focus is on fundraising and it’s our response as a team to the Ritchie family’s challenge and we hope you may be able to support us.

How can you get involved?

There are two ways.

We would be most grateful if you would consider making a donation on this JustGiving page but we would also like to welcome you to join us on the South Coast on Sunday 22nd April and walk with us for some of the journey.

Whilst Freddie and Jo pound the streets of Southampton, Lynda and Al will be completing 13 one-mile laps of the beautiful Hythe Marina and would be delighted if you can ‘do a lap with us’ or simply come and say hello.

If you are free on Sunday 22nd April, please join us and bring the family (and the dog) and walk a mile or more and together we can support this incredible charity.

Why the Brain Tumour Charity?

Lynda Ennis is friends with Becky Scott, a personal trainer who knows the Ritchie family. The Ritchies decided to act when Toby was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In 2015 they brought together a group of friends to ski uphill, the equivalent height of Mount Everest. They did this over four days in the Alps and raised more than £3 million. The funds are being used by the Brain Tumour Charity to undertake world-leading research at the Everest Centre. You can see the inspirational video of the Evert in the Alps 2015 event

Please do check your diary and see if you can join us on Sunday 22nd April and if you are able to make a donation we would be most grateful. If you are planning to come and join us, please let Jo know and she’ll send through timings and directions.

Thank you.
