Story

Eeking ever closer!

ABOUT CROHNS DISEASE:

From the outside a sufferer may appear to be fine, but on the inside can be suffering incredibly. The bowels and anything connected with the backside have always been a bit of an embarrassing subject, and not one we ever like to talk about or discuss. So with that in mind this project is a way to open peoples minds, and raise their awareness of an illness that many know little or nothing about and could be suffering unaware that they have this rare condition. I've suffered for 22 years and felt it was time to raise it's awareness profile through this project.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The project is an art's based project, involving 70 artists worldwide. I sent them blank stickers and the brief to design a sticker/slap to help raise this awareness in a unique and creative way. The response has been outstanding, the art has been varied and of the highest order. These artists are used to working on a much larger scale, so to have them hone their skills and talent to such a small surface has been amazing.

The name from the project came to me as it had a double meaning...A slap being a way to beat Crohn's and it's aggressive agenda and a slap being the slang name for a sticker.

WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE:

Our vision for the project from the beginning was to raise the awareness through the creation of a book.

The artwork is so unique that we feel it would sit perfectly as a body of work within the pages of a book. This compilation book will be sold with part of the proceeds going to this Just Giving page in aid of Crohns & Colitis UK Charity, part of the proceeds going back into the projects development.

The book will continue to spread the awareness message allowing viewers taking it into their homes to show and share with their friends and families. Alongside the book the original pieces will be displayed and auctioned at an event sometime in 2014, allowing the public in to a private viewing, to get close to the amazing, creative and unique work of some of the worlds best artists from Graffiti and Street Art respectively. We will be hosting other events leading up to this exhibition.

Thanks to our fantastic website (coming soon!) and social media the world has a place to touch down in, where all the information for the project is available at the click of a button. The ever changing gallery will enable the viewer to see the artists work as it arrives, and the interactive gallery allowing the public to submit their own designs will give project more of a group feeling, a movement promoting Crohn’s disease awareness through the power of art.

This journey wouldn’t be possible without the help of so many amazing people, the generosity and advice has been priceless and we hope we can turn these acts of kindness into something quite special.
