Story

When I was 7 my 17 year old sister Ali brought her boyfriend Michael home to meet us. They've now been married for 30 years, have 2 grown up boys Scott and Danny and many happy family memories. Michael was there through all the important parts of my life and has watched and helped me grow into the person I am today. When I went home to Wales for a visit, I could always count on Mike to fill me in on what had been happening in my local town, Abertillery, before my sister had a chance to even say Hi, and when we lost my Dad, 2 years ago, Mike was there with my Mum trying to keep him alive until the ambulance arrived.

1 year later, Mike was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour and all of our lives were shattered again. Watching my sister care for him everyday with undevoted love, and not being able to really do anything to stop either of their suffering is heartbreaking, so I decided to find  something I could do. I wanted to find a way to raise money for a charity of Ali's choice (Mike is no longer able to give us his opinion) by doing something I would find challenging. 100k from London to Brighton, with no overnight stop, means I'll be walking for anything between 24-33 hours. Thats definitely a challenge.

I have told Mike about the walk, and although he is unable to tell me how he feels, I know that he is proud of me, and grateful for any support we can get.

On a lighter note, as a lifelong Everton (blue shirt) supporter, Mike, for the first time ever,  is going to have to accept that I will be wearing The Brain Tumour Charity's RED t-shirt in his name.
