My time in the North East playing for Sunderland was memorable for so many reasons but the warmth and passion of the people of the North East and the close knit nature of the communities has stayed with me.

The challenges many have faced in the region are well documented but the work the FOL does with thousands each year is incredible, raising aspirations and helping achieve educational goals is there aim and the Beacon of Light currently under construction will be a great asset. 

Once again we're heading off for a tough challenge to cycle 305 miles from Krakow to Prague with 16,000ft of climbing. 40 hardy souls, and by no means elite cyclists, but the incredible camaraderie, teamwork, laughter and tears get us all through! 

I know we all have many charity donation requests but this group and especially this charity will earn every penny on this challenge.
