Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September 2018 I decided that I was going to paddle board around Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid). It's about a 7 mile round trip and can take up to four hours...or longer depending on how slow I am! I felt this is an achievable challenge with some preparation - like spending more that 40 minutes on a board like I currently do - and would prove to myself that I can do things like this - as it is out of my comfort zone! Paddle boarding is something I took to instantly and has helped me through mentally rough times.

I chose CCF as Cambodia is one of my favourite countries and I have been there many times. It is poor but people are friendly and just nice  -that's my experience anyway. CCF don't keep a lot of the money that they raise or is donated, almost all of it goes into projects from housing to school placements to breakfast clubs. This is really important! As an educator, I believe education should be for all. Sometimes we forget how fortunate we are and how what we have is more then some do in others parts of the world.

So this is my challenge.......I will be posting on Instagram updates etc @travelbugsup and @missmtravelbug.......hopefully you can come along for the journey.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and to donate/or not...it's okay :)

This is what donations can buy.....

  • £5 - provides a hungry child breakfast and lunch every day for a week while at school.
  • £10 - provides a CCF student with two school uniforms.
  • £25 - provides one month of educational materials and supplies for a CCF student.
  • £35 - sends a CCF student to a youth leadership camp, a three day, two night immersive leadership training camp trip.
  • £150 - Operation Rescue - Accelerated learning for students, providing two years of primary school education in one year, allowing them to catch up and participate at their correct year level.
  • £230 - A tonne of rice

A little about CCF.......

Cambodian Children's Fund transforms the country's most impoverished kids into tomorrow leaders, by delivering education, family support and community development programs into the heart of Cambodia's most impoverished communities.

Cambodian Children's Fund believes that with quality education and leadership, one child has the potential to lift an entire family out of poverty and a generation of educated children has the power to change a society. By investing in the health, education and well-being of impoverished children and youth, we are building the skills, confidence and integrity they need to become leaders of positive change in their communities.

Since 2004, we've been working with some of the most impoverished communities in Cambodia, centered around the former garbage dump at Steung Meanchey. Back then, our world revolved around the health and well-being of 45 children living on the garbage dump. Today there are closed to 2,000 students working towards a better future for themselves and their families through CCF's award winning education program.

The garbage dump was closed in 2009, however the need for CCF's services continues as Steung Meanchey remains an entry point into Phnom Penh for destitute families with no option but to try and make a living through scavenging or begging on the city streets.

Through a range of programs that focus on 6 core areas - Education, Leadership, Community Outreach, Healthcare, Childcare and Career and Life Skills - we take a holistic, on the ground approach to developing integrated solutions to the complex issues of poverty. We work hand in hand with local families to deliver support programs, strengthen self governance and grow safe, supportive communities where children can thrive.
