Story
I have decided to do a Go Ape tree top challenge in order to raise money for The Optimum Health Clinic’s Randomised Control Trial. For many of you this may seem like a fun day out but as a someone who is most definitely not a fan of heights, particularly when there are just a couple of straps keeping me safe, this is definitely out of my comfort zone!!
This challenge is going to require me to overcome numerous obstacles along the way, it’s going to require physical and mental strength, and a willingness to let go and trust. I also imagine there are going to be times when I want to stop or wish that it was all over so I’ll really need to connect with my inner resources and coach myself through so I can continue to the end. All of these qualities were needed on my own recovery journey from CFS and Fibromyalgia so it’s seemed a fitting challenge to do for the clinic.
I also feel that it is a celebration of my recovery journey so far. Just over 6 years ago I was mostly bed and house bound, requiring help to wash my hair and shower. I’m now supporting people on their own recovery journey and hopefully me completing this challenge will give them and anyone else out there that is struggling hope that things can improve.
I really believe in the OHC’s vision that one day their integrative treatment approach will be available to all via the NHS. People often come to us feeling confused, alone and that there is no hope. I’ve seen the benefits people get just from speaking to someone who understands first-hand what they are going through and then how empowering it can be for them to have support from an experienced practitioner to learn tools and techniques they can use to help themselves on their recovery journey. I would love this support to be available to everyone who needs it and funding the Randomised Control Trail is one step closer to realising that vision.
