London Marathon and Trek Mont Blanc 2019
Fundraising for Isabel Hospice
Story
I have set myself two big challenges for 2019: running the London Marathon and trekking around Mont Blanc. Please read my story below to find out why:
23.09.2013 was the worst day of our lives. That was the day we had to let go of our youngest son James. He was such a happy and cheeky little boy one day and gravely ill the next day, before he finally left us for good after only 12 days in hospital. He died of brainstem encephalitis, a form of meningitis. He was only six and we are missing him every single day.
23.09.2019 will be the day I am hoping to finish a trekking challenge around the base of Mont Blanc. This will be a very emotional experience, but hopefully one I can look back on and know that James would have been proud of his dad. But before I can do that, there is the small matter of running the London Marathon in April, something which sound terrifying to me. But it wouldn‘t be a challenge otherwise, would it?
I would like to support the Isabel Hospice in Welwyn Garden City with any donations I am hoping to raise. Although James was never in their care, they have provided us (and especially Daniel, our oldest son) with lots of counselling after James had passed. Their youth section (led by Tracy Slade and her team) have been brilliant with the various activities over the years. Its time to say thank you and doing something rewarding for them.
Please, I hope you can help me to support this wonderful charity. I know times are hard at the moment, but I believe that we can all add something small to create something big together. Thank you for reading and donating.
Isabel Hospice provides FREE care and support to patients and their families eastern Hertfordshire. Hospice care is about helping people to live well for as long as possible and have a good death in the place of their choice when the time comes. Without your help, we could not make this possible for our patients and their families. Each year we care for around 1,400 patients and 700 family members. But we know there are even more people that need our help.I would be extremely grateful for any kind contribution you are able donate towards my challenge today.
