Story

My Challenge

In February, I have decided to take on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the 4th highest mountain in the world, standing at 4,900 metres (16,100 feet) from its base, over 5.895 meters (19,341 feet) from sea level. The planned trek is via the Machame Route and will take 8 days on the mountain. I've selected this route to (hopefully) avoid altitude sickness and to have the best chance of reaching the summit!

My Charity

ALL the money raised will go to Salisbury hospice as I'm self funding my trip. I have decided on Salisbury hospice, as they looked after my wife's grandad and my own nan so well in their final days and thought this would be a good way to give back to them.

About Salisbury Hospice

It costs £2.4 million to run the Hospice each year. Less than 50 % of these costs are funded by the NHS and as a charity they aim to raise £1.5 million of this annually.  At any one time they look after 180 patients and their families both in the Hospice, at home and in the Hospital; they receive so many moving testimonials and tributes from families in recognition of the exceptional care provided by the palliative care team based in Salisbury.

About the charity

The hospice costs £2.9 million to run, with Salisbury Hospice Charity aiming to raise £1.5 million of the funding required. Over 1,000 people a year are helped both in the hospice and in the wider community. Without your help this could not have been achieved. Thank you.
