We Raise funds for Dorchester Festival to support Dorchester Abbey and Restore

Story

I am inviting people to sponsor me as I'm aiming to raise as much as I can for two very worthwhile causes:

Sue Ryder Care

Sue Ryder provides incredible hospice and neurological
care for people facing a frightening, life-changing
diagnosis. It’s not just expert medical care they provide. It’s
the support and practical things they take care of too. They
do whatever they can to be a safety net for their patients and
their loved ones at the most difficult time of their lives.
Not only do they treat more conditions than any other UK charity in
their hospices, neurological care centres and out in the
community; they also campaign to improve the lives of people
living with them. They see the person, not the condition, taking time
to understand the small things that help that person live the
fullest life they can.

By supporting a larger concern, so much more can be achieved to support those who are known to us personally as well as those in the wider world.

Dorchester Abbey

Dorchester Abbey has been a favourite place of mine to visit since I can remember.  As a family, we would visit the Abbey on many weekend afternoons when I was very young.  This was always followed by a visit to the famous tea room!  Now, I am taking my own children to this wonderful place.  Each visit reveals something new; from a characterful face in a stained glass window to a knight's shield; from the herb garden to a quirky take on a caramel slice with a cup of Earl Grey...

It is really important that places such as the Abbey are maintained and sympathetically enhanced so that they can be enjoyed by future generations as well as helping them to carry out valuable work in the communities they serve.

My work takes me around the country inspecting and working on church bells.  I always look forward to the annual maintenance visit at Dorchester.  Having become very familiar with the inside of the bell tower, it's now time to get to know the outside a little better - something this challenging abseil should put to rights.
