We support slum dwellers in Delhi, India to tackle the cycle of poverty

Story

James was an Undergraduate at St Andrews University studying Mathematics. Prior to St Andrews he attended Strathallan School in Perthshire. He was a talented young man who excelled in his studies.  He also enjoyed playing chess and tennis. In the last couple of years he had battled with a form of depression. Sadly he lost this battle on the 22nd of October and took his own life.

In September 2011 James, along with two friends from school, Alex Falconer and Doga Makiura travelled to New Delhi to volunteer with the charity Asha.  All the funds raised from this site will go towards the work of Friends of Asha GB, who are working to empower communities living in poverty in the slums of New Delhi. This cause is very close to James' heart, when he returned from India he continued to support the work financially.

George, Vic and Euan, James' parents and brother, wish good to come out of the sad loss of James, and feel that helping slum children get out of poverty is more than a fitting way to achieve this. The family will be grateful for any donations, however small.

Asha means 'Hope' in Hindi.  However sad James' family and friends feel at this time they are not without hope.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)
