We support young people across Oxfordshire to amplify their voices and improve lives

Story

In April 2015 I sadly lost my mother (to Leukemia) this had a massive impact on my own  mental health and wellbeing I struggled to cope some days and didn't know who to turn to or where I could get support on how do deal with the situation.

Once I had learned to open up and talk to people( about my emotions and how I felt it was like a massive weight lifted of my shoulders. As a child I was never taught how to deal with emotions or even have the tools to deal with stressful life situations.

20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year.50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24.

10% of children and young people (aged 5-16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental problem, yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.4

In the last 25 years, rates of depression and anxiety among young people have increased by 70%. With 50% of mental illness in adult life (excluding dementia) starting before 15, and 75% before 18.

I feel if we can encourage children to talk and open up about their own emotions and how to deal with the constant pressure of everyday life , Exams , social media, we can aim to lower the rate of anxiety, depression we are starting to see in children at such a young age.

I want to use my own experience to help bring a brighter future for the support of children's mental health and wellbeing.

That’s why I am launching my fundraising campaign to raise money to support Oxfordshire Youth. I am going to challenge myself not only physically but also mentally by taking part in my first ever Triathlon to help raise the money .

Please can you help me to make a difference in the support of children mental health and wellbeing.
