Story

As my son Curtis has recently become an ambassador for Broughton House, me being an ex Royal Marine and this being my 50th year I am running this years London marathon to help raise money for this dedicated charity and nursing home. Broughton House is for veterans living their remaining years amongst friends with a team committed to serving all those that served in the British Army, Royal Airforce, Royal Navy and Merchant Navy either full time or as a reservist. Broughton House offers a safe and dignified home which has a quality of nursing and residential care provided for aged veterans in a safe and supportive environment. Broughton House welcome veterans from all backgrounds and ensure that everyone lives with dignity and as much independence as possible.

As a Royal Marine I was based at 40 Commando in Taunton and 45 Commando in Arbroath. At these units I was deployed to Iraq, Turkey, Northern Ireland, Caribbean, Norway, Portugal, Canada and Brunei. If it wasn't for the opportunity to run our family business on civvi street I would have served longer and may have been involved in the recent conflicts of war. I enjoyed my time in the corp and served with some hoofing bootnecks and other members of the armed forces in which some have given the ultimate sacrifice and not returned from these conflicts.

I am a social runner with my local running club, Weston Athletic Club. Due to family and work commitments I can only run 3 times per week ranging from 5 to 10 miles per run. So the marathon is out of my comfort zone and I am going to have to find more time to train which I am determined to do.
