On 14th September, I will be swimming 10km for the children of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Whilst this might be a short run, I am told that it is a rather long swim and, as been helpfully pointed out, there is nowhere to rest!  An intensive training session in the local baths should achieve what is needed however.

 

I am hoping to raise at least £17,000.  Of this £10,000 is needed to fund a portable blood analyser for the hospital’s Cardiac Unit. In just one to two minutes, this vital piece of equipment can monitor a child’s condition during a procedure, measuring blood loss, haemoglobin levels and oxygen saturation levels. It can also greatly increase the speed with which patients are diagnosed with certain conditions.

 

Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Cardiac Unit is amongst the very best in world, treating children from all over the UK, with complex cardiac conditions. These children can be just a few hours old, right up to adolescents in their late teens. The portable blood analyser will be used every day and will make a real difference in the lives of both the hospital’s remarkable staff and their very special patients. 

 

The additional £7,000 is needed to pay for the two ventilators needed by the Great Ormond Street Hospital's Intensive Care Unit to provide life support to critically ill patients. These ventilators keep children alive while the team works to save them.
