Why the Trust?

Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a rare neurological disease that leads to premature death. It causes brain cells to shrink resulting in severe problems with multiple bodily functions. People with MSA often end up in need of full time care, doubly incontinent and in some cases unable to communicate, swallow or move. Some people with MSA say it feels like the disease traps them in their own bodies. There is no known cause or cure for MSA. Diagnosis is a prolonged, painful and very frightening journey.

The MSA Trust is a charity dedicated to spreading awareness, offering  help for sufferers and their families and giving  hope for a future cure by promoting research.

Many healthcare professionals have never heard of MSA. The Trust works to change that; no patient should ever have to Google a disease their doctor has never heard of.

This page is to help stop the suffering Mitch went through, sooner not later. This page is for Mitch.

The Multiple System Atrophy Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing specialist support to all those affected by MSA; a life-limiting neurodegenerative brain disease. We provide MSA nurses, a telephone helpline and regional support groups. We also fund research into both a cause and cure.
