Hi Everyone! My name is Mia, I am 19 years old and I am hoping to raise as much money as I can for the Blue Lamp Foundation in memory of my loving, heroic and truly amazing dad.
The Blue Lamp Foundation was set up by my dad, PC David Rathband in 2010. The aim of the charity is to provide support and financial assistance to ambulance, police or fire service personnel injured in the line of duty (and the families and dependants of such personnel), I truly believe that emergency workers aren't credited enough for what they do. The Foundation was put in place when my dad was shot at point blank range on the 4th July 2010 on my 12th birthday party! My dad was simply doing his job , a job that he loved ! Due to the horrific events that took place that night , and the devastating impact that this had on his life - I later lost my dad to suicide in 2012; he was my best friend and he has left a huge hole in the lives of many people .
I can't stress enough how vitally important it is to never suffer in silence. Mental Health is a cruel illness that can grip any one of us but there are also so many of us who are here to listen and help. This is a huge issue within the emergency services as many people feel that they simply cannot speak up, for fear that it may put their job at risk, this needs to change.
I am committed to completing a 15 mile walk from Amble to Bamburgh Castle.
I thank all of you in advance for any support I may get and lets get rid of the stigma for Mental Health and support those who do so much for us every day! If my dad could run a Marathon blind, I sure as hell can do this!!
Much Love Mia x x
