I'm the Mayor of Shrewsbury (Shropshire) and I'm raising money for my mayoral charities, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and The Shrewsbury Ark.

Lingen Davies have a target to raise £750,000 by 31 December 2016 to contribute towards the cost of a new state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator to give radiotherapy treatment to cancer patients at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.   This is important so as to maintain the top quality cancer services we have at the RSH which in turn helps to ensure the continued existence of the hospital.

At my Civic Service last May, the Vicar of St. Chad's, Mark Chadwick, mentioned that both I and the Mayor's Officer, Bob Handley, are keen cyclists and offered us a tandem which was wheeled into the Church and said he was looking forward to seeing us riding it.

As a result, one of the things I'm doing to raise funds is a sponsored tandem bike ride with Bob from Shrewsbury to and around Lake Vyrnwy and back.   This is about 65 miles and we will be doing it on Sunday 4 October, my 65th birthday.
