Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This summer, I spent a lot of time observing the work of dentists, head and neck surgeons, nurses, radiographers and oncologists who treat patients with head and neck cancer. I saw first hand the journey that these patients have to go through from their diagnosis to rehabilitation.
Head and Neck cancers - and in particular Oral cancers, are increasing, especially amongst young people.
The Ben Walton Trust aims are:
- To raise awareness of the disease among the general public and health professionals.
- To fund research.
- To encourage appropriate palliative care.
As a dental student, I am keen to raise awareness and to help these patients in any way that I can. I am doing the half marathon because I want to help the Ben Walton Trust to raise awareness for oral cancer. Working with head and neck cancer patients, and in particular, oral cancer patients this summer was an eye-opening experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I hope to do much more work with these patients during my future career as a dentist.
I have been training for the half marathon but just discovered this week that my niece is getting christened on Sunday 6th October and unless I ran like Mo Farah, I would not make it! Therefore, I am now participating in the 10k which is earlier on the same day! I hope you still donate kindly!
