Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

During the 31 days of March 2021 I am going to try and run a total of 250 miles. That’s an average of 8 miles every day. To put that into context I don’t think I’ve ever run anything more than around 100/150 miles in a month. This is going to hurt! However, I wanted to push myself to do this challenge because what the wonderful staff in all aspects of the NHS have been going through for so long now, is hurting them.

I have specifically picked the NNUH because not only are they my local hospital, who we know have been battered recently due to Covid, but also because I had to have a stay with them just prior to the end of last year. Words really don’t do justice for how superb they were. Covid, although not peaking as it has these last few weeks, was still very much there for them and all the associated risks and workload etc that meant for them. But the care from the staff meant you would not have known.

If we get poorly we take it for granted there will be Drs and nurses waiting to make us better. The prospect  that they would have had to turn me away because of too many demands from Covid is quite awful. But they didn’t, and this is what all the staff have strived and strived to do throughout this pandemic, to make sure that if hospital attendance is needed, for whatever reason, that they will be there. Even at high costs to themselves.

I love running but for a long time wasn’t able to, because of the reason of needing the NHS. The NNUH made me better and have allowed me to start running again, which is why it only seems right to challenge myself with my running to try and give a little back.

I’m not one to usually share opinions or personal information this much. However I really do feel strongly and, quite emotional, about what these good people are going through to make sure they can carry on helping us. So any amount big or small you can contribute will be incredibly gratefully received.

It goes without saying all of my running - the actual challenge or the preparing - will be Covid restrictions compliant.

Thanks for reading, I’m off for a cup of tea and then had better lace up my trainers! 😊
