On Sunday 19th March 2017, I will be taking part in the Marsden March to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity (via the Livery Company I work for, the Cordwainers Company).
The Marsden March is a 14 mile walk from the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton.
Hopefully the sun will be shining for the walk but who knows with our weather. Regardless of sun or rain (or snow!) I will be walking and I'm doing it for the simple reason that there isn't anyone I know that has not be affected by cancer.
Whether it is personal experience or having to watch a family member or friend battle the disease, the sad fact is that everyone will encounter cancer. Since deciding to take part in this event, I have been mentioning it to friends and it is incredible how many have told me their own stories of cancer, and the Royal Marsden.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises funds to support the vital, world-leading work of the Royal Marsden Hospital in diagnosing and treating cancer. Through my job, I have been able to visit the hospital to see their work and to speak to a number of their staff members and have been struck by their passion and commitment to not only providing the best care for their patients but to finding ways to cure cancer so that others do not have to suffer in the future.
