Starting at the end of June (next month!), I will be spending 3 months in Palestine volunteering on a Right to Education programme with International Service (http://www.internationalservice.org.uk/index.html). They are an amazing charity that uses human rights to underpin their development work. They work with women, young people, disabled people and people living with HIV/AIDS in several countries around the world. They work with local partners in each of the countries, and have development long-term community projects with them that have already had a lasting impact.

I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to work with them in Palestine, where the lack of education creates huge barriers to employment and opportunity for young people. I will be doing Live Below the Line, during which I will be living under the extreme poverty line (£1/day) for 5 days. I will have £5 for 5 days to cover all of my food and drink during that time, in order to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by people living in extreme poverty. Plus, anyone who knows me would realise that I am a total foodie, so this is going to be hard! This is still an artificial challenge, because travel, accommodation, medical care, clothing and myriad other things are not covered by that £5. I can only imagine how difficult it is to find a way to not only feed yourself, but manage everything else.
