Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Mandalina Starlight Melody – although most folk just know me as Neo.

I’m regularly told that I’m a dog of very little brain, but I don’t think that matters, because what I lack in brain, I make up for in other ways – I’m big hearted and kind, and great company!

It is my job to be companion and protector of my respective humans:-
      - I’m really good at the first one – it’s rare I leave the MEA fundraising office during the daytime. I’m there when all the phone calls and emails come in – I hear all the stories – of pain, of courage, of resolve to do something, anything to make a difference. I hear the stories too of other pets who are there for their humans, helping in their own small way to make their lives more bearable. We clearly have a very important role to play.
     - But I’m not the bravest of dogs. And there is so much out there that is scary – small children, timber floors, cars, trains, runners, puddles, big lorries….

So what I’m going to do on Sunday 10th December is not going to be easy. Not just because they’re proposing dressing me up in some daft costume, but because I’m a country dog and I’m not used to big cities, like Glasgow.

But I’m in training - I’ve recently taken the centres of Stoke, Cardiff and Edinburgh in my stride. I’ve even travelled on a couple of trains! I don’t yet know if I’ll be walking or running – that depends on which of my family prevails to escort me on my big day….

Why am I doing this? That’s the easy bit!
- Because I can - and there are so many humans with M.E. who can’t.
-And because there are so many dogs up and down the country who don’t get out to do the walks that they’d love to do, because their humans simply can’t manage them. I’m one of the lucky ones.

My family is just one of the many that has been devastated by this horrid illness. And just one of the many families helped and supported by The ME Association. This charity is not just there for the people struggling with the illness, but for their friends and families who are desperate to support them. The friends and families who would do anything, anything at all, to make their loved ones better again.

Please support me in my canine crusade to help make the UK a better place for people with ME/CFS.

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
