Story
Hi
A lot of you will know that back in September 2015 Jack my youngest son aged 6 was really poorly and we ended up in A&E where they diagnosed him very quickly as being in Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) They had to treat him quickly and we were left in shock, watching on while they worked on him.
The diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes was like a lightening strike that came from no where.
That night everything changed for Jack and us as family. My older children had to learn very quickly how to recognise Jacks high and lows, when to ask for something to eat and when not, which was a really problem for 2 growing teenagers!!!!!!
Even today I sometimes think that I will wake up one morning and it will have been a dream and for some time after his diagnoses I felt I was living some else's life.
Jack is amazing and has taken it all in his stride. Well most of the time! He is a very brave little boy, so for him and other little boys and girls like him I have decided to take on 2 challenges this year to raise awareness and funds for this charity who are researching into finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
My first challenge was 'Mission 24' earlier in July. That was a gruelling 24 hour challenge of hourly boot camp and tabbing sessions. I was originally down to do this last September but I had to pull out due to Jack being in hospital.
My second challenge and probably my most feared is the 'Royal Parks Half Marathon' in October, to some of you would be a breeze but to me it may as well be Mount Everest! I can shuffle my way round a 5k but now the idea of 13 miles really makes me nervous.
Im sure every day at some point some one in your life is asking for sponsor money or a donation for one thing or another but I really hope that you find it in your heart to donate to this deserving charity and help them to help those like Jack.
