Story

So here it is...

My 2017 Fundraising Appeal.  The only one I will do this year, and it's a bit different.  As part of my commitment to raising more money for one of my favourite charities Maggie's Centres I am giving up a lot of things I like, for at least the month of January.

As usual I am running the London Marathon in April and for once I plan to train and do it properly.  I know.. who I am I?  Right?  By kicking this off as the clock turns midnight of 2017 I will be giving myself the major kick up the ass I need to make things happen, and raise money for amazing people at the same time.

So here's my promises to you, my awesome supporters...

  • No Booze. Plain and Simple.  For (at least) the month of January not a drop of the demon drink shall touch my lips.  I will not cheat by using a straw
  • Cakes are agogoingGONE!  For that same period, cakes are OUT. I am including biscuits in this genre.  Just because.
  • ChocoWHAT?  Nope, not for me.  January is a no go zone for that sweet brown, white and dark stuff.
  • And just because, let's lose crisps for at least those 31 days as well.  Yes, even my favourite ever - Chicken and Thyme Sensations.
  • I'm also committing to doing at least 30km of training runs a week in January to kick me out of this funk of laziness.

This will hopefully stun and amaze many of you, the very fact that I am willing to give this a go.  Many will scoff, but I am determined to make this happen.  My target is high for the simple reason that this charity is an amazing one.  I cannot tell you how mindblowing Maggie's Glasgow is when you walk in the door.  Their welcome, their support, their sheer breadth of services for those who need it at one of the most important points of people's lives.  Their motto is simple "People With Cancer Need Places Like These".  I could not agree more, and I will undertake this challenge to ensure that this is a reality for as many people who need the services.

So you know, all of you who buy a round when we are out, or who just think it's awesome that me, Robin, the guy who can't give up anything, will do this please do drop a wee donation in. The cost of a pint, a couple of quid, a million.... anything at all that will help me hit that target for Maggie's.

JustGiving doesn't share your details, everything is secure.  No aliens were harmed in the making of this page.

Thank you hugely for your support. It means the world to me and to people who need these services.  Together let's do this.

If I fail, I will match the donations made to that point, but that's not going to happen so let's get this total as high as possible :)

Robin x

PS... another of my fundraising ventures for Maggie's can be found here >>> https://one4themoney.wordpress.com/2015-team-scotland-challenge/  . It's my attempt to meet all 300+ members of Team Scotland from the Commonwealth Games to get them to sign two shirt for auction.  I'm just shy of 100 of them just now.
