*Team Oarstruck finished the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge on February 7th 2018. The team rowed 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Isles to the Caribbean*
As a team of four school friends, Hugo Thompson , John Morgan, Joel Wood and Monty Williams are taking part in the 2017 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
Leaving in December we will be taking part in the WORLD'S toughest rowing race of 5000km rowed from the Canary Islands across The Atlantic ocean to the Caribbean Island of Antigua. The race will take between 40 and 90 days to complete and the team will face 40ft waves, storms, salt sores, hunger, sleep deprivation and the occasional shark. We will be rowing and sleeping in alternate 2 hour shifts 24 hours a day until we reach our destination.
So why put ourselves through this?
In October 2015, Hugo Thompson, from Team Oarstruck, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It is the team's personal mission to complete the race in aid of Diabetes UK to inspire other Type 1 Diabetics that nothing is out of their reach and that T1 will not limit their lives. The target of £50,000 will go straight to diabetes UK to help and assist with research into the disease, raising awareness and help where it is most needed.
