Story

In May last year a terrible disaster hit Sri Lanka that impacted over half a million people. Your help is URGENTLY needed to secure a safe home for the children who were left orphaned.

Sri Lanka is extremely vulnerable to climate related disasters, including tremors from nearby earthquakes in places like Equador and Nepal. Last May torrential rain caused a mudslide and flooding killing more than 100 people. Over 200 families were missing and at least 111900 had their homes destroyed. In total, over half a million people were affected, and tragically, hundreds of children were left orphaned and homeless. The country is still recovering.

I went to Sri Lanka last August for a holiday, and was privileged to be able to visit some friends of our small Brighton based charity, ALALA; Rev. Meewellawe Dhammananda there and his Teacher, Rev. Palitha Thero who belong to the Ramanna Maha Nikaya Buddhist Sector.

These gentle monks took us to see a house surrounded by ample garden, rich with fruits, herbs and spices and with it's own pure water well. They were generously saving their personal earnings in order to put a deposit on this property with the intention of raising enough to buy it and convert it into an orphanage. Initially it will be for 20 children, but with more coming later as they develop the site. It has more than enough space to add a new block for at least 20 more children.

The local village and neighbourhood are highly supportive of this orphanage project and are already helping to develop the garden and plant more food so that the orphanage has a good degree of self sustainability. Luckily bananas, pineapples and other delicious foods grow perfectly in Sri Lanka, and the people here are genuinely the sweetest people on earth. They intend to help care for the children like a large extended family.

BUT, now there's an imminent deadline!  They have made the deposit and already preparing it to move the children in as soon as possible, but they could lose that deposit, the house and the land if they don't secure the purchase with the bank in the next 3 weeks!

Immediate help is needed. .

We need £30,000 to secure the sale and we have just 3 weeks to raise the money before the bank repossess the assets.

This is the plan - If 143 people give just £10, every day for 21 days we will succeed!

You can help provide a safe and beautiful home to these very deserving children. Please give whatever amount makes you feel happy and good, then share the news with your friends! Your contribution is so immensely valuable and will make a huge difference!

How many people do you know who could give £10 and help to make this Orphanage Secure?

Together we can do this!! And when you give, please be sure to add your name. I am going to make a wall plaque for the orphanage with the names of all the people who gave to this cause, so that the children who live there can see who loved and helped them <3

Thank you so much for your kind generosity and for spending time on this page. Please share it on Facebook!

With all our love and gratitude,

 Tara and ALALA.
