By the time they come in to hospital, the majority of ovarian cancer patients have advanced-stage disease and an urgent need for treatment.  Last week one of the Gynaecological Oncologists who undertakes this surgery told me - with real passion - how a new device called plasmajet would really help patients undergoing this surgery and how he would like Oxford to have this equipment.

Whilst the current treatment here in Oxford saves lives, this new equipment offers a real benefit by reducing adverse side-effects and the need for further operations.

We have a matched-funding commitment of £23,700 from the Oxford Cancer Benefactors Board towards bying this equipment, however we need to raise an additional £23,700. 

This would fund the plasmajet surgical procedure for carefully selected advanced ovarian cancer patients over two years and enable Oxford to participate in the clinical trials to establish this new method as the preferred treatment across the NHS. 

The overall improvement of quality of life for ovarian cancer patients treated by plasmajet will be significant.  Initial experience indicates that nearly 50% of patients will benefit.

Plasmajet will hasten receovery, reduce the need for further interventions and really improve quality of life.
