Story
Now more than ever the NHS needs our help. The Corona Virus pandemic has crippled hospitals all around the country. Nurses and doctors are working tirelessly 7 days a week, numbers of available beds are dwindling and Covid cases are sharply rising. I experienced this first hand when my Dad was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 in March. He was in the Intensive Care Unit on a ventilator for 18 days, before he passed away on the 12th of April at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. The exemplary care he received was due to the amazing work of the nurses and doctors that were there 24/7 by his side.
There’s not much I can do to repay the people that cared for my Dad in his final days, but as a small token of my appreciation, I want to raise some money for Leicester Hospital Covid-19 Response Fund, so, starting on the 12th of January, I will be running 150 km in 30 days in memory of my Dad. This month is also an important month as it would've been his 58th birthday on the 27th of January.
In his youth, my Dad was passionate about running - taking part in national events and even completing the London Marathon in 1998. One day I hope to follow him in completing the marathon.
I will be giving weekly updates on my running progress on my Facebook page. And, every donation will be placed into a random draw and one lucky winner will receive some signed Stevenage FC memorabilia which has been very kindly donated by the club.
