Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Myself, Maxine, Sharon and Suzie have all been selected from the ballot to ride in the event in August. For those unfamiliar with the event
Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen
Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads
through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside. With
leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists
at the London 2012 Olympics, it finishes on The Mall in
central London.  We have chosen to raise money for
Scleroderma & Raynaud's UK (SRUK) in support of our close friend Nigel Cuff who was diagnosed with the disease in 2018, you can read his story here:

"Hi my name is Nigel Cuff and I have been diagnosed with Scleroderma as part of a mixed connective tissue disorder. Scleroderma is an auto immune disease that for many people only affects their skin but in some rarer cases it can also attack your internal organs. My symptoms started with the onset of Reynaud’s disease and difficulty eating.

In November 2018 I went for a routine appointment with my rheumatoidologist Sarah Bartram who has been an amazing support. I had been suffering with severe headaches and sickness and after checking me over that day admitted me to hospital as my blood pressure was dangerously high. I was having a Scleroderma renal crisis. Over the following week I was looked after in Salisbury hospital waiting for a bed in Portsmouth Hospital to become available. During that week I lost my sight and was monitored constantly, thankfully my sight has returned. I spent two weeks in Portsmouth and was then transferred to the Royal Free Hospital in London where the Scleroderma experts are based. Scleroderma caused my kidneys to fail and has affected my digestive system meaning that at the moment I am being fed intravenously through my blood and on dialysis three times a week. I have also recently been diagnosed with pancreatitis which is extremely painful. I am now back in Portsmouth hospital being looked after by the renal experts who liaise with the Royal Free and Sarah. I have lost four stone and am bed bound but am determined that with the ongoing care and the help of the doctors and rehabilitation experts I will walk again and go home to my family."
