Story
Dad, Grandad, John, Mac ...
However you knew him, Dad was a legend and unfortunately passed away Monday 17th October 2016 after fighting a rare bone marrow disorder. There was a chance of recovery if a suitable stem cell donar was found. Unfortunately in our case the transfer was unsuccessful. This may not be the case for other people who urgently need a transplant.
First and foremost Dad was a family man (although Sylv may have disagreed at times!) and we loved him as much as he loved us. His greatest joy was spending time with his three Grandchildren who he dearly wanted to see grow up. We will endeavour to make sure they remember him.
Dad's other love was Stourport Swifts. Dad (Mac) joined the Swifts as secretary in 1965, and the club you see today began to take shape.
In the last 50 years, the Swifts, founded in 1882, and the oldest Club in the County, progressed steadily under his guidance from the Worcester League, West Midlands League and Southern League to the Midland Football League Premier Division, which is Step 5 on the Football League pyramid.
During his tenure, many managers came and went, but Mac remained the one constant figure throughout the past fifty years, with his tireless efforts, constant fund raising and always ensuring the secure future of the club. He was an unsung hero and a rock of the local football community for fifty years.
Dad was honoured last year by the Football Association for 50 years' service to football at a dinner hosted by the Worcestershire Football Association.
It would be an honour to be able to say that Dad helped to raise money and awareness for such an important charity as the Anthony Nolan Trust.
