We fund private mental health support to help those facing a Duchenne diagnosis

Story

On 28th June 2018 at sunrise -  Paul , Alan and Tony ( all Police officers from the Metropolitan Police service ) will take on the challenge of cycling From Marble Arch London to Paris specifically the Arc de Triomphe ( via Newhaven Ferry crossing ).

All in 24 hours......  The route will take us through the English countryside  61 miles to Newhaven where our Ferry awaits.

London to Brighton is billed as a BIG charity ride at 55 miles, but our route doesn't stop here.  We get a 4 hour pause from the saddle on the boat,  then its a final 106 mile : 4967 feet elevation gain cycle onto the French capital Paris.   Totalling 167miles / 268 km

We are doing this for my son Oliver who is now 3 years old and was diagnosed with the fatal muscle wasting condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2015 when he was only 3 months old.  The disease is FATAL and means Oliver cannot produce Dystrophin, a protein needed to build his muscles. As a result every muscle in his body will deteriorate including his heart.  At this moment in time there is NO cure.

The facts about Duchenne are inescapable:

  1. -Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is 100% fatal.
  2. -Most kids with it die in their late teens or early twenties.
  3. -Most with it are usually in a wheelchair by the age of 12.
  4. -It leads to respiratory failure, heart failure, and other debilitating orthopaedic complications.

My chosen Charity is HARRISON'S FUND  ( set up by another amazing Dad who's son Harrison  also has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  This astounding charity has ONE goal :
**  To get as much money as possible into the hands of the world's best researchers, who are working to find a cure for Duchenne.  **

"-We're different from many other Duchenne charities out there because we're focusing on treatment rather than palliative care.

-And we work internationally. We invest in research that takes the science out from the lab, and into human clinical trials.

-So that, hopefully soon, more of those with Duchenne can grow into the strong men they're meant to be."

- Thanks for visiting our page.  My son Oliver and all the other boys with this debilitating condition really do need your help.
