Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A few weeks ago, my lovely mother-in-law Joan was diagnosed with terminal cancer; following a short stay in hospital, she moved to the Sue Ryder hospice at Leckhampton Court in Cheltenham, where she sadly passed away peacefully almost 2 weeks later.
The care and tenderness Joan, we, her family and her friends received from everyone at "the Court" was exceptional.
To honour Joan's memory, and to raise funds for this wonderful place, I decided to take on the 90km option of the 30th Anniversary Ride for Ryder Sportive, which will take cyclists out from Cheltenham through a number of Cotswold villages - and over some Cotswold hills! - and back, calling in at Leckhampton Court en route.
You may wonder why I've set a minimum fundraising target of £945? Well, it costs the Sue Ryder organisation £135 per day to pay for a nurse, so I thought if I could raise enough to pay for a nurse for at least half of the time Joan was being cared for at "the Court", it would go part way towards recognising and repaying them for their kindness.
Of course, if I could raise double that amount, it would match the numbers of days' care these wonderful people gave.
