As you know I am taking part in the Greater Manchester 10K run to raise much needed funds for the British Heart Foundation. The BHF is a charity close to my heart as on the 12th November 2013 my daughter Ruby underwent major heart surgery to repair two holes in her heart.
Ruby was diagnosed at 18 months old after a trip to A&E with two atrial septal defects in her heart and was monitored until the age of 5 at which point the holes in the walls of her tiny heart had grown to 12mm and 13mm and had to be closed by way of open heart surgery. We was booked in to Alder Hey Children's hospital on the 11th November just 3 weeks before her 6th Birthday. As you will see from the images attached Ruby was not phased one little bit by her surgery, the same can not be said about her mother and I. Throughout the whole experience Ruby remained upbeat and pleasant and the Nurses took a shine to her as she never complained, Nurse Lisa even said what a little star she was as she thanked Lisa even when she had hurt her taking out her chest drains. Ruby went into hospital on the Monday, the operation took place on the Tuesday and she was discharged on the Saturday so actually only spent 5 nights in hospital. As you will appreciate none of this would have been possible without the valuable research into heart health and of course the surgeons who carry out these procedures.
Thank you for your kind donations
