We use the power of football to change lives across Sussex

Story

I am running the Seagulls Santa Dash blindfolded for Albion in the Community to raise money for the charity I work for and to raise awareness of the barriers to participating in sport that some people face.

Albion in the Community (AITC) is the official charity of Brighton & Hove Albion FC. I have worked for the charity for eight years and am incredibly proud of the work we do in the local area.

We now run 25 regular sessions for people with a disability and more than 250 people now regularly attend our football sessions. We also have around 20 different teams that compete in local, regional or national leagues.

Sessions can cost between £3,000 and £5,000 a year to run and much of the charity’s fundraising efforts go towards supporting our inclusive football programme.

We also delivers disability awareness training to local schools, colleges, universities and businesses – training that often includes a blind guiding exercise that is similar to what I will be experiencing at the Seagulls Santa Dash.

The money raised by the event – and the sponsorship I receive – will help fund our sessions, which have a genuine impact on the players who attend them.

About the charity

Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation (BHAFC Foundation) is the official charity of Brighton & Hove Albion, helping people to get active, learn new skills, and live well throughout Sussex.
