Story

Made it to Paris - feeling great!   The money is still coming in - many thanks for the messages of congratulations etc. I really appreciate them all.I'd like to thank everyone who has made a donation - I've just had some more fantastic amounts in - from Connor Downs Primary School, Neville & Joan Helme, Brian and Margaret Stevens  and the Penwith Local History Group.  I really must say a HUGE THANK YOU to Jon and Vi Bennett who have been so supportive over the whole fund raising season and who have come up with lots of novel fundraising ideas - and the jam goes on!  Thank you everyone for all your giving whether great or small - you've made this event so worthwhile and I really am humbled by your generositySee down the page for updates on training etc.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Flood, fire, earthquake, tsunami- East Africa, Japan, Haiti, New Zealand, Columbia the list goes on and on.

I decided that it was about time I made a real effort to raise some money for a really deserving charity. I've always thought that the work done by our local Cornish charity SHELTERBOX was amazing and so worthwhile.

SO..........
................This aging person decided that the new bike would be put to good use. I started riding again this summer and found that I enjoyed it immensely. There's still a long way to go with the training, but I'm determined to give it a real go and hope that you will support me. My target of £2000 will buy over 3 Shelterboxes which will help desperately needy people in terrible situations. PLEASE please please make a real difference by making a donation. I am paying ALL my own expenses so ALL money raised will go to Shelterbox to help their fantastic work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you

What's been going on?

Boyton Church Fete on Saturday 27th August was a great success despite the weather earlier in the day. We met lots of great people who were very generous. Particular thanks to the Church committee for allowing me to be there, to Vi and Jon for the amazing jam sales and the Tamar Otter Park who sponsored me as their charity for the year... Thank you all very much. Final figure was over £200 - quite incredible

August 26th Three weeks training in France - delightful! Fighting to keep down to reasonable amounts of French bread and wine I managed to achieve over 300 miles....many thanks to my dear friend Remy who came out with me quite a bit and gave valuable training tips and advice. We even managed to include a visit to a wine tasting on one of our trips!

23rd July
I've just heard from the amazing Tamar Otter & Wildlife Park that they have adopted me as their charity for the year. This is a huge privilege and I'm extremely grateful to Mandy and John for their support. Do go and visit the Park - it's a fabulous place to visit.

18th July
Another AMAZING donation of £87 from Stephen has raised the total again. We met in the Sportsmans at the Quiz Night and he told me he was saving small change and wanted to donate it. WOW!!! Thank you so much Stephen. If anyone else has any small change I'm more than happy to accept it on behalf of Shelterbox.

16th July
Even more good news today. Thanks to a fantastic donations from choir members of Acapella we reached the £2000 target! If this keeps on we'll be able to buy another box for Shelterbox. GREAT and thanks to everyone who has helped.

15th July
What a fantastic evening! The great people of Heamoor rose magnificently to the fundraising challenge and the quiz raised £272. Thanks to everyone especially Helen and Paul the landlords for their wonderful support - couldn't have done it without you.

Our fantastic local pub The Sportsman's Arms are hosting a Quiz Night for the cause TONIGHT Friday 15th July starting at 7pm. There'll be other things going on a the event as well as Paul's excellent beer and Helen's fabulous food. I'd be delighted if you found the time to come along and join us for what I hope will be a fun evening.

July

Been over to France to do some training and see part of the Tour de France. Many thanks to Liz and Malcolm Glover for their fantastic hospitality. Cycled over 150 miles during the time there and sampled some of the country's great wines, bread and other foods. Brittany is so beautiful and there are many cycle routes (Voies Vertes) which take you to places cars just can't reach. An added bonus was encountering 4 baby otters playing on one of the tracks - Gorgeous and a real highlight!

18th June

A day at Connor Downs Summer Fair. Some very generous donations making £35 today and lots of interest. Nice to see a team from Shelterbox present too. Done over 50 miles this week including a round trip to St. Ives in strong winds and rain with lots of hills. The distance is getting a bit easier too which is encouraging.

8th June

Last week I managed my first 60 miler. I cycled from Penzance to the Lizard and back via a little village called St. Erth. The Lizard is the most southerly point in the UK and has a wondeful little pasty shop called Anne's Pasty Shop which makes the journey well worthwhile!

23rd May

Lots been happening - Had to spend quite a bit of time off the bike due to family matters, but now back on it and training's going okay.

Thanks to the folks of Mounts Bay School who contributed to the picture sale which raised over £70 - brilliant!

Am going to Carhaix in July by bike for 2 reasons - to practise cycling in France over a longish distance and to watch the start of a stage of the Tour de France for inspiration. Don't think I'll be mistaken for a participant....... Many thanks to Liz and Malcolm Glover for providing accommodation while I'm there.

21st March
haven't been able to cycle much lately as my mother fell and broke her hip so I'm trying to sort things out for her and I haven't got my bike in Hertfordshire. I'm looking round for a secondhand road bike for use round here as I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be away from home. Sure the legs will remember what to do!

Feb 17th

Another 30 miles today. Went to Shelterbox HQ in Helstonto pay in some of the many cheques so kindly donated to the cause. Friends and family have been so generous - more so than many of the companies I have contacted. Hope to organise a couple of events in Cornwall in the coming months - I'll advertise them here so do come back!

Feb 9th

50 miles in training today from Penzance to Lizard village. Tasted Anne's wonderful pasties from her shop - a welcome diversion to the day before encountering rain all the way from Helston to home.

A very special thank you to the Friends of Sennen School for their very kind donation from their School Carols around the Christmas Tree. Very much appreciated.
