Our care is outstanding, but our facilities are not. With your help, we can realise our most ambitious appeal to date - to raise £5m by 2024 to help transform children's services at one of the busiest hospitals in the country.

Story

On the 20th November 2015 my twin daughters were born into this world.

As with any new born baby we had lots of visitors for the 1st couple of weeks and during this time Dinks (aka Darcy!) caught a common cold which turned into Bronchialitis.  In the early hours of 6th December 2015 we had to take both twins to the out of hours doctor.  The Doctor was not happy to just send us away because Dinks was only 2 weeks old and wanted her checked by a Paediatric Doctor and thank goodness they did as Dinks started to go blue so was placed on a ventilator in Accident and Emergency at Southend Hospital.

Dinks was separated from her sister from that moment on for a week and was transferred to St Georges' PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) where she was placed in a drug induced coma from Sunday till Thursday and then transferred to a ward until the next Sunday.

Whilst in the PICU with Dinks both my wife and I witnessed the awesome staff within the unit look after every child with superb  care and compassion and dealt with parents with the same care and compassion.  If an emergency occurred the staff would drop everything to assist it each other and as soon as the emergency had stopped they would return to their original task.  It was awe inspiring to witness.

So due to their treatment of Dinks and the care and compassion they showed Hannah and I we will help raise money whenever we can.

So for 2022 I will be firstly running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on the 3rd April and then riding the Ride London which is 100 miles through London and Essex!  So please give what you can to this amazing charity so they expand the PICU and renovate the children's wards.

Update -  Because I am a little bit crazy I have now decided to get my Classic Medal (Given out if complete the London Marathon, Ride London and Swim Serpentine) so on the 17th September I am now completing the 2-mile swim in the Serpentine in London's Hyde Park.
