I am challenging myself to this task for 2 reasons.  The first is that I, myself, was on a course to a heart attack.  This may sound propostrous for a young(ish) man, but I work in a sedan try job, over eating and not exercising.  It came to a head when I weighed myself and was well over 22st.  I decided there and then things had to change, for my own health and to keep myself healthy.  As I write this 2 months into training I have lost over 3st and am continuing to train hard, dieting and exercising.  I must challenge myself set targets to achieve otherwise I end up not succeeding.

The second reason is my grandfather.  I lost my grandfather in 1999, a loss way before his time.  He was a great influence on my life and his loss to heart related illnesses had a profound effect on me.  I a swimming to raise money in his memory, in the hope that I do not suffer the same illness and early demise and that the work of the British Heart Foundation, who do stellar work, can help others and support families affected by heart illness in its many guises.
