Story

I finished the Ride from Seahouses to Tynemouth inside 5 hours saddle time....but I confess to having a couple of coffee breaks. So it was just gone three in the afternoon when I rode into the finishing area at Tynemouth Priory, and have to say that there was a very nice feeling of pride and enjoyment in completing the 100kilometers.

The journey was really good, with a gentle following breeze, cool temperature and jolly company all the way. The good atmosphere among the other riders was terrific.

With donations to the Just Giving Page, and donations sent directly to ShelterBox in Truro, it seems that I may have raised well over £2.5k.

Let me say a huge ThankYou to all who supported me. I did think about the donations as the Priory at Tynemouth came into view , and strangely, the last three miles just flew by.

Thankyou all.

Peter

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, which I am using to raise funds for a charity I support, and which is called ShelterBox..

Thanks to the generosity and kindness of friends, groups, clubs and supporters, it looks as though the ride on Sunday 29th August will benefit the Charity by over £2,500. This is a wonderful amount and I am very grateful to all. Look out for a photo feature story in Chronicle Live this week, and online.

ShelterBox is a charity established by Rotary Clubs, as a Millenium Project in 2000 ,  to help victims of natural and man made disasters.....earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, cyclones, flooding, drought, conflict, climate change.

Right now ShelterBox is called to action in a number of locations, but especially in Haiti, where a Richter Scale 7 earthquake, (massive) was followed the next day by a Force 5 (utterly destructive)  hurricane.

ShelterBox supplies immediate disaster relief in a large green box, called A ShelterBox. A Shelter Box Kit contains essential items for survival, to help people get through the worst effects in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, and to get back on their feet....but costs money, of course.

ShelterBox has an excellent website which you might care to visit. Go to www.shelterbox.org. for much more detail.

I am doing this Bike Ride from Seahouses in Northumberland to Tynemouth, 100kms, on Sunday 29th August, in the hope that I can help ShelterBox, with your help.

And for me personally its a project, a target, and would be some achievement I think because I'm not a great cyclist, and the legs are not as strong as they were.. Your help would give me the wind at my back and the sun on my face to get there.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
