I have set up this page to raise money for The Turbo Trust, as this Trust is helping me raise the funds I need to help overcome my disabilities and regain my life through providing me with a custom built power chair.

Now, you maybe asking yourself...why can't she be satisfied with a bog standard NHS power chair? Why should I give money towards getting something special?

My answer would be told in two parts.....

Firstly, on a personal note, my life revolves around being a mother and carer to my daughter who has M.E and learning difficulties, and who needs my help and support on so many different levels and who suffers when I cannot get to her due to poor mobility-she has no other family who can help her, and no external support is available as government cuts have forced our local social services to cut facilities.

Also, when I am not being a carer, I spend my time helping, socialising and training dogs-this varies from helping out friends who are having difficulties, to fostering dogs in need from Woodgreen animal shelter, to being a puppy parent to assistance charities so that other disabled people can reap the benefits of having a canine helper!

Working with dogs is my passion, my reason for not giving up and taking to my bed! With the power chair I hope to gain, I will be able to move the seat up and down easily so that I can be up on a level with other people, or down on a level with a pup, as it goes right down to the ground. I can train and play with the puppy, groom it, clip nails and check paws after a walk. Most importantly, I will be able to 'poop scoop' effectively and clear up like all reponsible dog owners.The legs will extend so that my pain levels and swelling is reduced in my feet, and the chair has a turning circle so tight I could attend my indoor training club and take part instead of having to sit and watch on the sidelines. I will be able to socialise puppies in all situations, and meet their exercise and play requirements returning me to a useful role as a puppy parent to assistance charities-by helping me, you are helping many other people indirectly-the ripples extend and many, many benefits are reaped.

The second part is that by giving money towards The Turbo Trust you are not just helping me, but you are helping others who need custom-built power chairs themselves. By using Gift Aid you can help many other people, and any money I raise over and above my needs will also go towards another person's chair, and believe me that chair will be life changing! The company who has developed these chairs, and continues to develop and manufacture them, is a social enterprise firm who began their work due to having a disabled child themselves and wanting to give their child the same ability to reach her potential as all the other childrten-the childrens chairs are called "Snapdragons" and they change and develop along with the child so the child is always able to be as independent and engaged as possible. I feel very passionately that DragonMobility has the right attitude towards disabled people and their needs-people do not fit conveniently into boxes where one size fits all-DragonMobility understands and respects this. Each individual is assessed both by needs and by lifestyle so that their power chair is the best it can be to enable that person to maintain their life, be a productive member of society, be an equal instead of a burden-please help me to help them as well as myself!
