Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Each member of our team - the RD Ramblers - has had experience of retinal detachment, whether it's as a patient (myself, Alex, and Nickie) or someone close to us (Lucy and Susan). Retinal detachment is a medical emergency, and will lead to blindness in the affected eye if not treated. Although 85-90% of retinal detachments are successfully treated with the first surgery, unfortunately some of us aren't so lucky and have had to undergo multiple surgeries. Our eyesight suffers permanent damage after each detachment, but Moorfields strive to save as much sight as possible.
Close your eyes for 10 minutes, and imagine never being able to see again... the fear of sight loss is one which is very real for those of us who have suffered retinal detachments. Moorfields Eye Hospital performs sight saving operations every day and is involved in pioneering research to discover new ways of saving eyesight. We will be taking part in the 14-mile sponsored walk from Moorfields Eye Hospital to the London Eye in March 2017 to support this vital research.
